BrainyLeo ("BrainyLeo", "we", "us") is a learning tool that turns a photo of a textbook page into a fun, voice-guided quiz for children. This policy explains what information we handle, how we use it, and the choices you have. BrainyLeo is designed to be set up and operated by a parent or guardian.
You can use BrainyLeo without an account. Signing in is optional, and it is what lets us save your child's progress so it survives a new device. The two sections below are separated on that line, so you can see exactly what changes when you sign in.
1. Information we handle without an account
- Pages you upload. When you take a photo or upload a PDF to generate a quiz, the image is sent to our AI provider to create questions and is processed in real time. Uploaded pages are not stored on our servers after the quiz is generated.
- On-device data. Your child's name and chosen character, along with progress, coins, streaks and preferences, are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. While you are signed out, this stays on the device.
- Usage events. We record a small, fixed list of events — for example that a quiz was generated or finished — against a random identifier stored on your device. These tell us whether the product works, not who you are. They contain no quiz content and no name.
- A daily quiz counter. We keep a count of quizzes generated per device and per network address so the free allowance can be enforced. It is stored as a one-way hash, not as your address.
- Feedback and survey answers. If you send feedback, answer the one-question survey, or report a quiz question as wrong, we store what you submitted.
- Waitlist email (optional). If you join the waitlist, we store the email address you give us.
2. Information we handle when you create an account
An account belongs to the parent or guardian. Signing in uses a link sent to your email address — there is no password. When you are signed in we also store:
- Your email address, so we can sign you in and, if you choose, send the weekly summary.
- Your child's first name, chosen character and age range, as entered on your device. A name is optional — the app works without one, and you can leave it blank. Please do not enter a surname or any other detail; a first name or nickname is all BrainyLeo ever needs.
- Quiz history. For each finished quiz: the title, subject, score, number of questions, the date, and the text of questions your child answered incorrectly. This is what produces the progress view and the "needs practice" suggestion.
- Progress. Coins, experience, streak and unlocked accessories, so they follow your child to another device.
- Shared quizzes. If you create a share link, the quiz is stored so the person you send it to can play it. Anyone with the link can open it, so only share it with people you intend to. Share links expire after 30 days.
- Subscription status. If you subscribe, we store your plan and an identifier from our payment provider. We never see or store your card details — payment is handled entirely by Stripe.
3. How we use information
- To generate quizzes from the pages you upload.
- To read questions aloud and provide the interactive experience.
- To show you your child's progress and what to revisit.
- To send the weekly progress email, if you have it switched on.
- To enforce the free daily allowance and to process subscriptions.
- To understand which parts of the product work, and to fix questions reported as wrong.
- To contact waitlist members about early access.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use your child's data to show advertising.
4. Children's privacy
BrainyLeo is intended to be used by a parent or guardian together with their child. Accounts are created and controlled by the parent; children do not sign in and cannot create an account. Parent-facing screens are placed behind a grown-up check.
When a parent signs in, information about the child is stored: the first name entered on the device (optional), a chosen character, an age range, and the results of quizzes taken. We ask for no more than that — no surname, no address, no photograph of a child, and no contact details for the child. The upload screen warns against photographing faces, and uploaded pages are not retained.
As the parent, you can see everything stored about your child on the account page, and you can delete all of it at any time using the delete button there. If you believe a child has given us information without your involvement, contact us and we will delete it.
5. Service providers
We rely on trusted third parties to operate BrainyLeo: AI services that generate quiz questions and the voice that reads them aloud, our database and hosting infrastructure, an email provider for sign-in links and the weekly summary, and Stripe for payments. These providers process information only as needed to provide their service.
6. Data retention
- Uploaded pages are processed transiently and not retained.
- Sign-in links are single-use and expire 20 minutes after they are requested.
- Shared quizzes expire 30 days after they are created.
- Account data — your email, your child's profile and quiz history — is kept for as long as the account exists, and is deleted immediately when you delete the account.
- Waitlist emails, feedback and survey answers are kept until they are no longer needed or you ask us to remove them.
- On-device data stays on your device until you clear your browser storage.
7. Your choices
- You can use BrainyLeo without an account and without giving an email address.
- You can leave your child's name blank; the app works the same way.
- You can switch the weekly progress email off at any time from the account page.
- You can delete your account, your child's profile and your entire quiz history at any time from the account page. This takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.
- You can ask us to delete your waitlist email or feedback at any time.
- You can clear on-device data by clearing your browser's storage for this site.
- You can ask us for a copy of the information held about your account by emailing us.
8. Security
Sign-in links and session tokens are stored only as one-way hashes, so they cannot be read back out of our database. Payment details never reach our servers. We take reasonable measures to protect the information we handle, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
