The lantern festival came on the night of the full moon. Tara and her family gathered in the park with hundreds of others, each holding a small paper lantern with a candle inside.
Her grandfather handed her a lantern. "Make a wish before you light it," he whispered. Tara closed her eyes and wished for her little brother, who was ill at home, to get well soon.
When she opened her eyes, she lit the candle carefully. The lantern began to glow, warm and golden. She let it slip from her hands, and it rose slowly into the dark sky, carrying her wish upward.
Soon the whole sky was full of lanterns, like fallen stars floating upward. Tara watched her lantern rise higher until she could no longer tell it from the stars above. Three weeks later, her brother was well, and she never forgot the night she let her wish fly.
